Wanneer de larven uitgroeien tot volwassen mijten, paren zij weer met elkaar en leggen op hun beurt eitjes, waardoor de cyclus in stand wordt gehouden.
Hoe ziet schurft eruit bij mensen?
Typische klachten zijn heftige (vooral nachtelijke) jeuk en bultjes op de huid. Het secreet dat nodig is voor het graven van de kanaaltjes zorgt, in combinatie met de uitwerpselen van de mijten en de eitjes, namelijk voor een ontstekingsreactie van de huid. Een arts zal bij klachten van jeuk altijd kijken op specifieke voorkeursplaatsen: de zijkanten van de vingers, de binnenkant van de polsen, de binnenkant van de ellebogen, de oksels en zowel de enkel als wreef van de voeten. Op die plekken zijn met het blote oog zeer fijne lijntjes te zien, die vaak wit zijn verkleurd. Een mijt zelf is voor een leek met het blote oog niet goed te zien en dus niet de beste manier om schurft te herkennen.
Opvallende schurft symptomen
Herken je de volgende schurft symptomen? Jeuk langs de vingers, op de binnenzijde van de polsen, op de ellebogen, in de voorste okselplooi of langs de navel. Dan kan het raadzaam zijn om te testen op schurft. Kleine huidontstekingen leiden tot roodheid en bultjes. Als gevolg van jeuk kunnen er ook duidelijke krabletsels ontstaan.
Wat is de oorzaak van schurft of scabiës
Schurft is een besmettelijke aandoening en ontstaat na intensief huid-op-huidcontact van langer dan 15 minuten. Bij een bepaald type schurft, scabies crustosa, kunnen de mijten ook via de lucht overgedragen worden en is geen direct huidcontact nodig voor een besmetting. Bij intensief gebruik van elkaars kleding, handdoeken en beddengoed kan de mijt ook worden overgedragen en is een schurft test aangeraden.
Na een besmetting duurt het gemiddeld twee tot zes weken voor de eerste schurft symptomen zich openbaren, deze periode wordt de incubatietijd genoemd. De besmettelijke periode start echter al twee weken na het oplopen van de infectie.
Schurft behandeling
Schurft kan zowel lokaal (via crème op de huid) als oraal (met tabletten) worden behandeld. Een lokale behandeling geeft echter minder bijwerkingen en heeft daarom de voorkeur. De arts kan als lokale schurft behandeling permetrinecrème of benzylbenzoaatcrème voorschrijven. Indien gekozen wordt voor een orale behandeling, zal meestal ivermectine worden voorgeschreven. Het is belangrijk dat de eerste behandeling na één tot twee weken herhaald wordt. Seksuele partners en huisgenoten moeten ook behandeld worden om herbesmetting te voorkomen. Voor hen geldt slechts een eenmalige schurft behandeling.
Schurft herkennen en voorkomen
Schurft herkennen is een ding. Hoe schurft te voorkomen is even belangrijk om weten. Er wordt sinds 2018 een langzame stijging in de incidentie van schurft gezien. In 2020 liepen ongeveer 250 personen per 100.000 inwoners schurft op. Vaak vinden er schurftuitbraken plaats onder bepaalde groepen in de bevolking, bijvoorbeeld onder studenten en in verpleeghuizen. Vermijd huid-op-huidcontact met besmette personen en laat je zelf ook behandelen indien je met hen in contact komt.
Waarom schurft testen?
Schurft is geen ernstige aandoening, maar wel vervelend. Schurft symptomen zoals jeuk en een schilferende huid kunnen vervelend zijn, maar er zijn geen ernstige gevolgen. Toch is het uiteraard wenselijk om schurft niet door te geven aan anderen.
De variant scabies crustosa heftiger verlopen en daarom is een verwijzing naar een dermatoloog aangewezen om dit uit te sluiten na een positief scabiës of schurft testresultaat.

Wat is een schimmelinfectie?

Een huidschimmel kan op verschillende manieren worden behandeld. Bij een eenvoudige en oppervlakkige huidschimmel, geniet een lokale behandeling met een crème de voorkeur. De arts kan kiezen tussen verschillende soorten antimycotica, ofwel, antischimmelmedicijn. Bij dieper in de huid gelegen schimmelinfecties zal een oraal antimycoticum (antischimmelmedicijn in tabletten) worden voorgeschreven.
Hoe kan ik huidschimmel voorkomen?
In veel gevallen kan je huidschimmel voorkomen door je huid zonder zeep te wassen, alles steeds goed af te drogen en ervoor te zorgen dat je steeds propere kleren draagt. Daarnaast is het nog belangrijk een gezond imuumsysteem te hebben.
Waarom ik mezelf best op een bacteriële infectie test?
Een huidschimmel is in eerste instantie niet gevaarlijk, maar ermee blijven rondlopen is nooit een goed idee. Een verzwakt immuumsysteem kan immers tot verschillende andere kwaaltjes leiden.
