Wat doet vitamine B12?
Vitamine B12 is een veelzijdige en essentiële vitamine. B12 is onder andere betrokken bij de aanmaak van stoffen in het zenuwstelsel, de aanmaak van rode bloedcellen en de aanmaak van DNA. Ook is voldoende vitamine B12 nodig om het risico op hart- en vaatziekten laag te houden en speelt het een rol in het immuunsysteem. Een vitamine B12 tekort is dus belangrijk om op te sporen.
Vitamine B12 is een vitamine die moet worden opgenomen vanuit voedsel omdat het lichaam zelf geen B12 vitamine kan aanmaken. B12 zit in zuivel, vlees, vis en eieren. Wat is de oorzaak van een vitamine D tekort?
Een vitamine D tekort komt bij heel wat mensen voor. Dit komt doordat het menselijk lichaam vitamine D hoofdzakelijk aanmaakt wanneer het wordt blootgesteld aan zonlicht. Doordat we onze huid bedekken met kledij of weinig in de zon vertoeven, krijgt het lichaam vaak niet genoeg kans om de vitamine aan te maken en op te slaan.
Wat kun je doen om een vitamine D tekort te voorkomen?
De belangrijkste bron van vitamine D is zonlicht. De makkelijkste manier voor het lichaam om voldoende vitamine D te produceren is dus blootstelling aan zonlicht. Ook het eten van voldoende vitamine D-rijk voedsel, kan daaraan bijdragen. Soms blijft de vitamine D-concentratie echter onvoldoende. Dan is aanvulling met supplementen een goede oplossing. Vitamine D kan zowel in druppels, pillen als via injecties worden toegediend.
