One in three Dutch people has high cholesterol. Is your cholesterol level too high? Buy a home test here and easily gain insight into your cholesterol level, including Medical Interpretation & Advice from our doctors. High cholesterol has no symptoms, so it is important to have it checked regularly. Unnoticed, cholesterol can be much too high and contribute to the risk of cardiovascular disease.
What is tested?
HDL cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, LDL/HDL ratio, TC/HDL ratio, Total cholesterol, Triglycerides
What is cholesterol?
Cholesterol is a substance in the 'fat' category. The body produces cholesterol itself, mainly in the liver. It can also be obtained in smaller quantities from food. Although cholesterol is often negatively associated with unhealthy eating and an unhealthy lifestyle, it is in fact indispensable for a number of important processes in the body. An excess of cholesterol, especially the bad form LDL cholesterol, is harmful.
Are there warning signs of high cholesterol? What are the most common symptoms of high cholesterol?
High cholesterol has no symptoms! That makes it dangerous, which is why it is so important to measure cholesterol yourself. Unnoticed, cholesterol can be much too high and contribute to the risk of cardiovascular disease.
High total cholesterol, low HDL cholesterol, high LDL cholesterol, high triglycerides; they all contribute to the risk of cardiovascular disease. But what exactly are cardiovascular diseases and what else contributes to their development? And more importantly, how can the risk be reduced?
In cardiovascular diseases, there is a narrowing of the vessels due to plaques that have formed in the vessels, also known as arteriosclerosis or atherosclerosis. In addition to high cholesterol, there are many other factors that can affect the quality of the vessels and increase the risk of cardiovascular disease.
Risk factors that contribute to cardiovascular disease are:
Hereditary predisposition
Smoking
High blood pressure
Underlying diseases such as diabetes, rheumatism, and chronic kidney damage
Overweight and lack of exercise
Unhealthy eating and drinking
Age and gender: men have a higher risk of cardiovascular disease, and the risk of cardiovascular disease increases with age
Origin: Turkish, African (Sub-Saharan), Hindu, Asian-Surinamese, or Caribbean background. As the vessels narrow, less blood and oxygen flow to the tissues and organs. This affects all organs to a greater or lesser extent and leads to a variety of complaints. If it is so severe that a vessel is completely blocked, it is called an 'infarction'.
Some symptoms of arteriosclerosis:
Slow-healing wounds on the legs or feet
Leg pain during exertion, for example, when walking or cycling. The pain subsides when resting. This is called intermittent claudication.
A constricting feeling in the chest and shortness of breath during exertion or emotion, which subsides with rest. Often there are also accompanying symptoms such as radiation to the jaws and nausea. This phenomenon is called stable angina pectoris or heart cramp. If these symptoms occur without provoking factors, i.e., without exertion or emotion, it is unstable angina pectoris and 112 should be called immediately.

Symptomen ervaart zoals een opgeblazen gevoel, diarree of constipatie;
Recent antibiotica heeft gebruikt en je darmflora wilt herstellen;
Chronische problemen heeft zoals het prikkelbare darm syndroom (PDS) of immuunproblemen;

Information about the STIs in this test kit.
Below you can find at a glance the most important information about chlamydia, gonorrhoea, trichomonas or mycoplasma. Click on the links for more detailed information.
Chlamydia
Is the most common STI.
Is caused by a bacterium.
Approximately 70% of women and 50% of men develop no symptoms.
Untreated chlamydia can cause severe inflammation, for example, in the cervix, bladder, and rectum.
Chlamydia LGV is a variant of chlamydia that mainly occurs in the anus of men who have sex with men. This variant can cause more severe symptoms.
Although rare, chlamydia can lead to infertility.
In pregnant women, chlamydia can pose a danger to the unborn baby.
Chlamydia can be effectively treated with antibiotics.
Gonorrhoea
Gonorrhoea is the second most common STI after chlamydia and is caused by a bacterium.
Also known as 'the clap' due to the characteristic pus-like discharge from the penis.
Infection mainly occurs among men who have sex with men.
Untreated, it can cause many problems and, among other things, lead to infertility in women.
In pregnant women, a gonorrhoea infection poses a danger to the unborn baby.
Can be effectively treated with antibiotics.
Mycoplasma
Mycoplasma is a relatively unknown STI and is caused by a bacterium.
It is not entirely clear how common mycoplasma is.
Mycoplasma is often only tested for if symptoms persist and there is no evidence of chlamydia or gonorrhoea.
The symptoms of mycoplasma are similar to the symptoms of chlamydia.
Mycoplasma does not always need to be treated, but can be effectively treated with antibiotics.
Trichomonas
Trichomonas is caused by a parasite.
Men usually do not develop symptoms in the case of a trichomonas infection.
For women, 20% to 50% will develop symptoms.
In pregnant women, trichomonas poses a risk to the unborn baby, as an infection can lead to premature rupture of the membranes.
Trichomonas can be effectively treated with antibiotics.
Is this test suitable for you?
For the most reliable result, it is important that you choose the correct STI test. The right STI home test is a test for the right type of STI or STIs and for the right samples: a vaginal swab, a urine sample, an anal swab, an oral swab, or a combination. This depends on several factors, including: your gender, your sexual practices, and whether you may belong to a risk group. Easily find out if this test is suitable for you by going through our selection tool or consulting our medical team.

Can you test already?
Before you take a test, it's important to consider the incubation period of an STI. The incubation period is the time between the moment of infection and the moment an STI is detectable through a test. If you test too early, your test may come back negative even though you are infected. This is a false-negative result. Below you will find a table with the incubation periods per STI.
STI
Incubation Period
When to test
Chlamydia
14 days
Two weeks after unprotected sex. Test immediately if you have symptoms and repeat the test after two weeks if the result is negative.
Gonorrhoea

What is being tested for?
Genital syphilis
What is syphilis and how common is it?
Genital herpes is an STI caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV), with two types: HSV-1 and HSV-2. Both can cause blisters around the genitals, anus, or mouth. HSV-1 is primarily associated with cold sores (herpes labialis) on the mouth, which is not an STI, but the virus can also cause genital herpes through oral-genital transmission. The virus remains in the body for life. In 2019, approximately 28,840 people were diagnosed with genital herpes.
What are the symptoms of genital herpes?
Genital herpes is a common virus that causes blisters on the genitals or mouth and is spread through skin-to-skin contact. The virus remains in the body for life and may be asymptomatic. During the initial infection, symptoms such as fever, muscle aches, headache, painful urination, and blisters around the genitals, anus, or mouth may occur. Symptoms often differ between men and women.
Common symptoms in women:
Blisters in or around the vagina, anus, or mouth.
Fever and a general feeling of illness.
Burning sensation during urination.
Vaginal discharge.
Swollen lymph nodes, such as in the groin.
Common symptoms in men:
Blisters on or around the penis, anus, or mouth.
Fever and a general feeling of illness.
Pain or burning sensation during urination.
Swollen lymph nodes, such as in the groin.
What are the consequences of genital herpes?
Genital herpes rarely causes serious complications but can be more severe in people with a weakened immune system or skin conditions. Pregnant women can transmit the virus during childbirth, which can lead to neonatal herpes in babies, causing damage to the skin, eyes, nervous system, and organs.
How does the Easly Genital Herpes Test work?
The Easly Genital Herpes Test is designed to detect Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) and type 2 (HSV-2) using the accurate and reliable PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) method.
Key features of the test:
Detects active infections: The test focuses on detecting active herpes infections. While it does not distinguish between past and current infections, it accurately identifies the presence of the virus during an outbreak.
Advanced PCR technology: The PCR method amplifies the genetic material of the virus, allowing for highly accurate detection, even with small amounts of sample. This ensures reliable results for correct diagnosis and treatment.
Swab-based sample collection: Samples are collected with a cotton swab from active blisters, ensuring a simple and non-invasive procedure.
How and when to test for genital herpes?
A Herpes PCR test is only suitable when blisters are present. The Easly PCR test can detect the herpes simplex virus in the tested material, but not immediately after infection. The incubation period, the time between infection and when the virus is detectable, is between 2 and 12 days, with an average of 4 days. Below you will find more information about the best testing time.
