FreeStyle Libre Select glucose sensor – 15 days of CGM
More insight into your glucose levels, without having to prick your finger all the time.
Want to know how your glucose levels develop during the day and night? The FreeStyle Libre Select glucose sensor from Abbott continuously measures your glucose levels and transmits a new value every minute to a compatible device.
The sensor is an option for people with diabetes, including type 2 diabetes, who want more insight into their glucose levels and daily patterns. This allows you to better see how your glucose levels develop around meals, exercise and other daily activities.
You wear the sensor on the back of your upper arm. One sensor lasts a maximum of 15 days.
What are the benefits of the FreeStyle Libre Select?
Glucose measurement for up to 15 days: one sensor for up to 15 days of use.
A new glucose value every minute: monitor your glucose levels and glucose trends throughout the day.
Fewer routine finger pricks: you do not need to prick your finger every time to check the sensor value.
Insight into glucose patterns: see how your levels change during the day and night.
Readout via your smartphone: use the Libre app or FreeStyle Libre 3 app on a compatible phone.
Discreet to wear: the sensor is applied to the back of the upper arm.
Glucose measurement in type 2 diabetes
In type 2 diabetes, it can be useful to understand how your glucose levels change during the day.
With a continuous glucose sensor (CGM), you can discover patterns that are less easily visible with individual finger prick measurements.
For example, think about changes in glucose levels:
After breakfast, lunch or dinner.
During and after walking, cycling or exercising.
During the night.
At different times of the day.
This can help when discussing your glucose patterns with your diabetes nurse, practice nurse or treating physician.
The FreeStyle Libre Select is not intended exclusively for type 2 diabetes. Whether continuous glucose monitoring makes sense for you depends on your personal situation and treatment.

How does the FreeStyle Libre Select work?
The FreeStyle Libre Select is a CGM sensor. CGM stands for Continuous Glucose Monitoring, or continuous glucose monitoring.
A small, flexible filament under the skin measures glucose in the interstitial fluid: the fluid between your body cells.
With the Libre app or FreeStyle Libre 3 app on a compatible smartphone, you can view the current value, glucose trend and glucose history.
The sensor does not measure directly in the blood. Because of this, there may be a difference between the sensor value and a blood glucose measurement via a finger prick when glucose levels are changing rapidly.
Read the FreeStyle Libre Select with an app or reader
You can use the FreeStyle Libre Select with the FreeStyle Libre 3 app or the Libre app on a suitable smartphone.
Check before purchase whether your phone and operating system are supported by Abbott.
Note the difference between the apps:
FreeStyle Libre 3 app / the Libre app: suitable for use with the FreeStyle Libre Select.
FreeStyle LibreLink app: not suitable for the FreeStyle Libre Select.
Prefer to use a reader? The FreeStyle Libre 3 reader is suitable for the FreeStyle Libre Select. This is not included. Also check support for your country and the exact app or reader version before purchase.
How do you apply the sensor?
The FreeStyle Libre Select has a two-part sensor application, consisting of a sensor package and a sensor applicator.
The sensor is applied to the back of the upper arm. Then you start the sensor with a suitable device according to the official instructions for use.
Always follow the enclosed instructions for preparation, application and starting the sensor.
After a maximum of 15 days, replace the sensor with a new one.

Important information
The FreeStyle Libre Select is a medical device for glucose monitoring in people with diabetes.
An additional finger prick measurement may be necessary when symptoms do not match the sensor value or when you doubt a measurement.
Possible points of attention when wearing a glucose sensor are skin irritation, differences with blood glucose measurements and the need to replace the sensor periodically.
Follow the official Abbott instructions for use. Discuss questions about your treatment or assessing glucose levels with your healthcare provider.
Frequently asked questions about FreeStyle Libre Select
Is the FreeStyle Libre Select suitable for type 2 diabetes?
The FreeStyle Libre Select is intended for glucose monitoring in people with diabetes, including type 2 diabetes. The sensor can provide insight into current glucose levels and patterns. You can discuss whether use makes sense for you with your healthcare provider.
Can I measure my blood sugar with my smartphone?
Yes. With the FreeStyle Libre Select and a smartphone suitable for the Libre app or FreeStyle Libre 3 app, you can view your sensor glucose values. The sensor measures glucose in the interstitial fluid, not directly in your blood.
How often do I need to replace the FreeStyle Libre Select?
A FreeStyle Libre Select sensor can be used for a maximum of 15 days. After that, you need a new sensor.
Do I still need to prick my finger?
For routinely checking sensor glucose values, a finger prick is usually not necessary. A check with a blood glucose meter remains necessary sometimes, for example when your symptoms do not match the sensor value.
What are the disadvantages of a glucose sensor?
Possible disadvantages are skin irritation, differences between sensor and blood glucose values, replacement costs and dependence on compatible equipment. Not everyone has the same experience with wearing a sensor.
Is the FreeStyle Libre Select free or is it covered by insurance?
The FreeStyle Libre Select is not automatically free. Coverage depends on the applicable conditions and your personal situation. Ask your health insurer or diabetes healthcare provider whether your sensor and treatment qualify for coverage.
Is the FreeStyle Libre Select the same as the FreeStyle Libre 2 or 3?
No. They are different sensor models within the FreeStyle Libre range. They may differ in wear time, dimensions, application and compatibility. Therefore, always check the exact model name before buying a sensor.
How reliable are the values of a glucose sensor?
The FreeStyle Libre Select measures glucose in the interstitial fluid. When values are rising or falling rapidly, the measurement may differ from a finger prick measurement. In case of doubt, check with a blood glucose meter and follow the official instructions for use.
