The insulin patch pump consists of a waterproof housing with an insulin reservoir, pump, flexible cannula, insertion system, and an adhesive patch. The waterproof patch pump is worn on the body and is wirelessly controlled via Bluetooth by the OmniPod DASH operating system.
The insulin reservoir has a capacity of 200 IU and can be filled with insulin via the fill port. The flexible cannula is inserted with the push of a button using the insertion system. Through the viewing window, it can be checked whether the cannula is correctly positioned. The patch pump is affixed to the body with the self-adhesive patch.
When starting up, the patch pump and the operating system must touch each other. During normal use, the operating system must be within 1.5 meters of the patch pump. The patch pump can be used for a maximum of three days. IP28 (water resistance up to a depth of 7.6 meters for 60 minutes).
